INTELLIGENT LIVES stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities – Micah, Naieer, and Naomie – who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce. Academy Award-winning actor and narrator Chris Cooper contextualizes the lives of these central characters through the emotional personal story of his son Jesse, as the film unpacks the shameful and ongoing track record of intelligence testing in the U.S.


Disaster, Displacement and Disability Forum, presented by Disability Rights of NC

The Harrison Center at Christ Church, 311 Middle St., New Bern
A community forum on the Hurricane Florence disaster response and recovery efforts with a specific focus on disability.
We want to hear from people with disabilities and other disability advocates about the lack of adequate services and supports in shelters and in the community during and after the hurricane and challenges you may be facing today as a result of the storm. Sibshops give brothers & sisters of kids with special needs an opportunity to meet other siblings in a relaxed, recreational setting. It gives siblings the chance to explore their feelings in creative, light and fun ways. Down Syndrome Advocacy Day, Triangle Down Syndrome Network

It is up to advocates in the Down syndrome community to help legislators be better prepared to represent our interests when crafting legislation. Down Syndrome Advocacy Day is a perfect opportunity to share your knowledge about Down syndrome with elected officials in the state capital.

Gateway Gallery Presents: CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS

Join us at Gateway Gallery for the opening reception of CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS, featuring the Artists of Gateway Studios and a special guest artist. Refreshments by The Enrichment Center's Culinary Arts team, plus award-winning wine served by our friends from RagApple Lassie Vineyards. This exhibit will be on display through May 9.
