RALEIGH, N.C. – People with disabilities, their caretakers, and family members face a number of difficulties every day, even before this global pandemic.

From services to support, the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities is now seeking input on ways to make things better for those with a disability in our state.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair sat down with the executive director of NCCDD, Talley Wells, for a look at the five-year state plan, and the input it is seeking from the public. The current plan has three main goals as listed below:

Five Year Plan Goals (2017-2021)

  • Goal 1:  Increase financial security through asset development for individuals with I/DD
  • Goal 2:  Increase community living for individuals with I/DD
  • Goal 3:  Increase advocacy for individuals with I/DD

Wells says input is needed from those with disabilities, their family members, and even caretakers on how to improve access, services, jobs, and care. Anyone impacted by someone who has a disability is urged to make their voice heard.
