New Webinar Focuses on Early Intervention and Resources for Hispanic/Latinx Parents of Children with Disabilities
May 11, 2021 (North Carolina) - The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities will host a Spanish-only webinar focused on the Hispanic/Latin parents of young children with intellectual and/or other developmental disabilities (I/DD).
“Your First Steps on the I/DD Journey” will be held on May 20 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. It aims to help families as they begin the journey navigating the complicated service systems; and is open for Spanish speaking parents of children with I/DD from 0-12 years of age.
Participants will learn more about resources and how to advocate for their child with disabilities including:
- What is Early Intervention?
- How to Access Medicaid & SSI?
- What is the Registry of Unmet Needs?
- What Does “Medical Home” Mean?
- How to Get Ready for Kindergarten/What is an IEP?
- How to Get Ready for Middle School?
This webinar is open to all parents and family members of children with I/DD and providers who work with them. Following this event, there will be an additional three webinars which will focus on youth and young adults transitioning into adulthood. Dates and times for those will be released soon.
Interested individuals are requested to register for the virtual webinar at Webinar Registration - Zoom. The webinar is a collaboration with the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities, The Arc of Union/Cabarrus, and FSN of Southern Piedmont.
