August 15, 2016 (Raleigh, NC) - The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) adopted the new 2017-2021 Five Year Plan at NCCDD's quarterly meeting held on August 11-12 in Cary, NC.

The new Five Year Plan addresses increasing financial security and asset development, community living and increased advocacy for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (I/DD) throughout the State of North Carolina.

"North Carolina's I/DD community provided important input on what they would like our focus to be over the next five years," said Chris Egan, executive director of NCCDD. "Adoption of the new Five Year Plan will drive the Council to launch initiatives that focus on meeting these goals and objectives."

The goals reflect input received from the North Carolina community gathered through 13 public listening sessions and an online community survey over the past year, and many discussions with Council members and other stakeholders.

Now, the Five Year Plan will be submitted to Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) for approval. The new plan will take effect on October 1, 2016.
